FAQ
What is a cycle cruise?
A cycle cruise is a ride on our 36-foot cycleboat with a bar running down the middle seating 12 pedal stations to paddle the boat. There are also non-pedaled seats/benches. It’s like a pedal pub except it’s on water. It has a capacity of 18 people including the captain and first mate. If you search the internet for ‘cycle boats’, you will find some examples.
How do I book a cycle cruise and what are the rates?

Can kids go on the boat?
If you have rented the entire boat out as a private cruise, you can bring kids on as long as they are accompanied by an adult (18+) with a 2:1 ratio; meaning, 1 adult per 2 kids. You are responsible for your own children.
Kids under 10 need to wear a properly fitting, coast guard approved life vest (Type IV is OK) and wear it for the entire ride. We strongly suggest you bring your own but if you don’t have one, we can provide a child size (50-90 lbs) Type I life vest but they are not very comfortable or appealing. We have bench seats available for kids that aren’t able to reach the pedals.
Is there a bathroom?
Yes, we have a bathroom. It’s only a 90 minute ride but we know how it goes when you’re consuming adult beverages! There aren’t any stops with a bathroom along the ride so your only options are the boat’s bathroom or Charlie’s bathroom before and after the ride.
What happens if it rains on the day of my cruise?
We have a canopy so we cruise rain or shine, but if there is extreme weather, at the discretion of the captain, we will cancel the ride and issue vouchers to reschedule. Your safety is our number one priority.
Do I need to wear a lifejacket?
We have coast guard approved, Type I, life vests on board for all adults but they do not need to wear them during the ride.
Can I swim off the boat?
No. You cannot swim off the boat. We have a schedule to keep so this is a tour ride only.
Can I tip the crew?
Of course! We encourage you to tip the crew if you enjoyed your experience but it is not required.
Are pets allowed on the boat?
We don’t allow pets on board.
Can I smoke on the boat?
We prohibit smoking on our boat at all times.
*Essential Reading
What do I need to bring on my cruise?
•Non-alcoholic Beverages You can bring them with. We provide a cooler with ice right on the boat. We highly suggest bringing some water. It gets hot and if your drinking alcohol, we don’t want people to get dehydrated.
•Alcoholic Beverages
You can bring those too. We are setup for BYOB (bring your own). But, the beverages you bring cannot be consumed anywhere on Charlie’s property. We suggest that you only bring about 3 drinks per person at the most. That’s 3 beers (36 oz.) OR 3 glasses of wine (18 oz.)…you get the idea.
•Sunscreen
We have a canopy on the boat, but the sun also reflects off of the lake so you could still get sunburn!
•Attire
Dress appropriate for the weather! Remember that your pedaling the boat so wearing something comfortable for bicycling would be ideal. Flip flops can work but you might want to consider a closed toe shoe for pedaling.
•Music
We have our own playlists but you can bring your own music device with an auxiliary output to play your own music. If you are on a ‘public cruise’, you have to be respectful of everyone’s musical tastes.
•No Food/Snacks
Charlie’s offers food/snack packages if you would like food during the ride. Please don’t bring any snacks from home. We may be able to make exceptions for food allergies/special occasions with pre-approval. Please email us prior to the day of your cruise.
Where do I park?
ALL Footloose Cruisers must park at St. Michael’s Church and take the shuttle service located at 16311 Duluth Ave SE, Prior Lake, MN 55372 (click to see map). It is roughly 3/4 of a mile from Charlie’s. You must arrive 30-45 minutes before your cruise for shuttle transfer (we cannot fit everyone on the last shuttle). Park in the last row of the back Southwest corner facing the pond (view map below). We will run shuttles starting roughly 45 minutes before your cruise. If you miss the last shuttle, you have to walk (run).
THERE IS NO PARKING FOR FOOTLOOSE CUSTOMERS IN CHARLIE’S MAIN PARKING LOT **DURING YOUR CRUISE** OR YOU WILL BE TOWED. Even if you WERE or ARE GOING TO BE a customer of theirs. This is Charlie's rule and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Before or after your cruise, you can park there, only if you are a customer of Charlie’s.
Please be aware that cruises will leave on time. If you are late, and you have booked a private cruise with us, it will cut into your cruise time. If you have booked a public cruise, we will leave on time and you will miss your cruise without a refund.
